Payment Platform Rescue

The client's payment system was struggling: high CPU, RAM and disk consumption, inefficient database queries, manual production deployments, and code that ignored SOLID and DRY principles. RemSoft.Dev took charge of the whole picture. The team improved code quality and removed duplication, designed a new scalable architecture, updated the codebase, and migrated the platform from on-premise to Azure Cloud. Alongside the code, they implemented DevOps end to end: environments configured per role, automated scripts and fixes, release pipelines on Octopus Deploy, version management, and resolution of outstanding security issues. The payment infrastructure was completed to the customer's technical documentation over two years, with a team of ten - five senior back-end developers, a senior front-end developer, PM, BA and two QA engineers.

Key Challenges

Client: Online casino operator

Duration: 2 years

Team: 10 - 5 senior back-end, 1 senior front-end, PM, BA, 2 QA

Infrastructure: On-premise, then Azure Cloud

The project faced several key challenges:

  • Performance at the limit: CPU, RAM and disk were saturated and database queries were inefficient - scaling hardware would only have postponed the problem.
  • Manual, risky releases: Production deployments were done by hand. Every release was a risk, so releases were rare, so problems accumulated.
  • Code without principles: Duplication and missing SOLID/DRY discipline made each change expensive; quality had to improve before the architecture could.

Results

  • New scalable architecture
  • On-premise → Azure migration
  • Octopus Deploy release pipelines
  • Security issues resolved
  • Unit tests introduced
