Water-Quality IoT Platform

Water utilities make operational and tactical decisions on data that is usually late and incomplete. RemSoft.Dev built an IoT-enabled smart software solution that changes that: special sensors capture water-quality readings, the readings are processed and analysed, and operators see transparent, actionable information in near real time. The engagement covered hardware and software together - the team designed the PCB and wrote the embedded code as well as the cloud platform, which runs on a hybrid of AWS Cloud and on-premise infrastructure with a Blazor front end. Over two years, a compact team of four - team lead, senior developer, embedded developer and PM - delivered a system that, to the client's knowledge, is unparalleled globally in enabling real-time control of water pollution, letting operators make sustainable, robust decisions with confidence.

Key Challenges

Client: Water-utility technology provider

Duration: 2 years

Team: 4 - team lead, senior developer, embedded developer, PM

Infrastructure: AWS Cloud & on-premise

The project faced several key challenges:

  • Hardware and software as one system: Sensor PCB, embedded firmware and cloud analytics had to be designed together; a data model decided in the cloud shaped what the sensor sent.
  • Near-real-time on unreliable links: Field sensors connect intermittently. Processing had to tolerate gaps and still present operators with a trustworthy current picture.
  • Decisions, not dashboards: The output had to be actionable - what to do today - rather than another chart to interpret.

Results

  • Custom sensor PCB + embedded code
  • Near-real-time water-quality analytics
  • Blazor operator interface
  • AWS + on-premise hybrid
